About the Tool
Kān Zamān is a date converter designed for academics working on the Islamicate world. Kān Zamān aims to improve upon existing tools through the following:
- Accessibility: a toggle for dyslexic-friendly reading and an uncluttered UI
- Date Flexibility: the ability to choose between conversions for an entire year range or a specific day
- Language: support for Arabic-Indic and Western Arabic numerals inputs (e.g. ١٢٣٤ and 1234), and outputs in English, IJMES transliteration, and Arabic script
- It is possible to enter non-existent dates (e.g. 32 December)
- The ḥisābi calendar is not useful for contemporary dates or religious observances
Note: The tool uses the ḥisābi (tabular) calendar, which derives conversions from a mathematical formula regardless of lunar sightings. Consequently,
Acknowledgments
